Most air conditioner problems start in the same place: an evaporator coil clogged with dust and mould. A dirty coil means restricted airflow, weak cooling, and a damp smell every time the unit starts.

How Haier Self-Clean Technology Works
When the unit is switched off, Haier drops the evaporator coil temperature until a layer of ice forms across it. The dust, mould, and bacteria clinging to the coil get trapped inside that ice.
The coil is then warmed again. The ice melts quickly and the meltwater flushes the trapped dirt straight into the drain pan and out through the drain line. The whole cycle runs by itself after shutdown.
Why a Dirty Evaporator Coil Is a Serious Problem
A dust-caked coil forces the fan to push air through a blocked surface. The unit has to run longer to reach the same temperature, and that shows up directly in your monthly electricity bill.
Worse, a damp dusty coil is an ideal breeding ground for mould. That is the source of the sour smell that appears a few seconds after startup, and it is not something a filter change alone will fix.

Does a Self-Clean Aircond Still Need Servicing
Yes, and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling something. Self-Clean handles the evaporator coil, but it does not touch the air filter, the blower fan, the drain pan, or the outdoor unit.
An annual service is still needed to check gas pressure, clean the filters, and confirm there are no leaks. The difference is that the service is quicker and cheaper because the coil is already clean.
